Cheapside will be closed for reconstruction and resurfacing from Tuesday March 15 to Saturday April 23, from its junction with Fishergate to the Turtle Bay restaurant on the corner of the Flag Market.

County Hall bosses say the improvements will be similar to those on Fishergate, with changes to the road layout, new paving and seating.

Jennifer Mein, leader of Lancashire County Council, said: “I’d like to thank people for their patience during this work, which will extend the new public space with wider pavements and contemporary street furniture.” She said businesses would remain open as usual.

Vehicles are recommended to go via Tithebarn Street, down Lord Street, Lancaster Road and Harris Street.

Similar improvements are taking place from Preston Minster along Church Street towards Fishergate. This latest phase is scheduled to be completed around late summer.
