A landmark bank in Preston is to close later this year, HSBC has announced.
The banking giant is to shut its branch on the corner of Garstang Road and Sharoe Green Lane, Fulwood, in October.
A spokesman said: “We never take the decision to close a branch lightly, and we understand it’s unsettling for the local community.
“Unfortunately, use of the Fulwood branch has fallen significantly over the past few years, and we’ve taken the difficult decision to close it on 16 October.
“We are working with customers who use the branch to help them understand their options, which include being able to use the Fulwood post office to check their balance and withdraw and pay in cash and cheques to their personal HSBC account.”
The company said it was working with employees at Fulwood to find them a role in another local HSBC branch.
An HSBC customer said: “It’s a real shame. It was always handy for us. It will be very inconvenient for people to have to go into town.”
Customers have been referred to Fishergate, Preston city centre, about two and a half miles away.
HSBC also has a business centre in Caxton Road, Fulwood.
