Engineers from Electricity North West, including inspectors and meter operators from electricity suppliers, went street to street and house to house to carry out property safety checks and repair affected equipment.

They visited hundreds of properties across Greater Manchester and Lancashire, including in Croston, Leyland, Lostock Hall, Ribchester and Whalley.

Paul Bircham, strategy director for Electricity North West, said: “It has been a challenging time for the communities in our region and we continue to be grateful for the goodwill and support that has seen shown to our colleagues by all of our customers.”

More than 80 per cent of the safety checks have been completed and work was continuing through the night to restore supplies to 357 properties in Greater Manchester.

Electricity North West appealed for anyone outside that area who is still without power to contact them on 0800 195 4141.
