Student favourite, Squires and New York, on the city’s Market Street will be celebrating the end of an era as the club calls time to make way for a stylish new venue.
And to commemorate the event, customers are invited to attend the club’s nostalgic ‘End of an Era’ theme night on Saturday, July 26, featuring the classic anthems from the year it opened up until the present day.
General manager, Dave Brown said: “Squires and New York, New York has been a fantastic nightclub for eight years and this really is the end of an era.
“Over the years, we’ve played host to more than one million customers and this will be our chance to fondly celebrate some great times.
“We’re also asking clubbers to post their nostalgic moments on our Facebook page which should create a great tribute to this fantastic venue.”
Contrary to rumours on social networks, the club will continue to trade while the refurbishments are taking place, and will re-launch early September as Cameo and Vinyl.
A spokesman for the Luminar Group who runs the venue said: “We’re going to be doing what is known as a rolling refurbishment.
“The general decor of the club will be improved as well as the furniture and a brand new state of the art lighting and sound system will be installed.”
The group, that also Squires’ sister club, Evoque on Church Street, that underwent its own £500,000 transformation last year, announced a 50 per cent increase in its annual profits in May.
