Work set to start on turning old post office building into flats

What is the project?

The redevelopment of a former Preston post office into a block of thirty one luxury flats.

The former post office, on West Cliff in Preston, was granted planning permission by Preston City Council in December, and approved in June.

What happens now?

Work is now set to start on the building, which is being developed by the Heaton Group.

What will the conversion involve?

The flats will be fitted out with all the latest mod cons

The conversion will see an extension to the building’s rear to accommodate 31 modern apartments, varying between one, two, and three bedrooms.

A spokesperson for The Heaton Group said: “It is an exciting time for Preston, with investment in housing, infrastructure and large city centre projects; we are looking forward to being part of the city’s renaissance and are proud to be restoring such a notable historic building.”

The old Post Office sorting office is a Grade-II listed building, having been built almost 200 years ago in the 1820s.

The Heaton Group confirmed that they will be working closely with Preston City Council to preserve the building’s historic worth.

When will the work be finished?

Work is expected to finish in December 2018.
