"My condolences, and those of all at the Council, go to Patricia, his family and friends. Rest in peace."

Fellow LibDem councillor Neil Darby, who represents Mr Pringle's home community of Ingol and Cottam, said: "Peter was a good friend to everyone in the community and worked incredibly hard for people in Ingol and Tanterton, even after stepping down from Preston City Council in 2015.

"I have many fond memories of him as will everyone who knew him as a friend or colleague. In particular for me, he was so friendly and helpful when I was finding my feet after being elected as one of his colleagues in Ingol ward.

"He would always put residents first, work hard to get things done, and was an exemplary local representative.

"Peter will be greatly missed but never forgotten.”
