Coun Mullineaux was replaced by Mary Green as Conservative group leader in April and he will officially move aside as council leader at the council’s annual business meeting on May 17.

A new council leader will then be appointed.

Coun Mullineaux will continue as a ward councillor for Samlesbury and Walton.

He said: “I have put my heart into serving this council for the past 15 years and now is the right time to hand over the leadership of the council. I look forward to continuing to support the council and its residents in every way I can.

“It has been an absolute honour and privilege to serve the people of South Ribble.”

Coun Green added: "I would like to thank Coun Mullineaux and the cabinet for their hard work and for the progress which has been made. I wish Coun Mullineaux every happiness in his future plans. The Conservative Group is determined that South Ribble will continue to be a great place to live and work."
