MP Ben Wallace defends Boris Johnson after reports of him missing Cobra meetings

The MP for Preston North and Wyre , Ben Wallace, has branded reports Boris Johnson missed a series of crucial early coronavirus meetings as ‘nonsense.’

The Defence Secretary , inset, defended the Prime Minister after the Sunday Times claimed he had skipped five meetings of the Cobra emergency committee about Covid-19, and sent Health Secretary Matt Hancock in his place.

Mr Wallace took to Twitter and said: “First as security minister for over three years and now as Defence Secretary I have probably attended more Cobra’s than anyone else in cabinet.

“It is normal for them to be chaired by a secretary of state. PM’s don’t “skip” Cobra’s. What a load of nonsense the Insight [The Sunday Times investigative team] story is.
