She said that Miss Lewis-Hoyle was found hanging in a bedroom by her mother, Miriam Lewis, who is a Maldon district councillor for the Conservative Party.

An ambulance was called and Miss Lewis-Hoyle's death was confirmed.

A post-mortem examination gave the medical cause of death as compression of the neck consistent with hanging.

Miss Lewis-Hoyle's father, who is a Labour MP for Chorley in Lancashire, said that he was "truly devastated" by the death of his daughter.

The inquest into the death of Miss Lewis-Hoyle is listed to be heard in Chelmsford on Thursday.
