Farewell to Preston Mayor after a '˜fantastic' year

The outgoing Mayor of Preston, Coun Margaret McManus, has celebrated a 'fantastic' year in civic office at a special service.

A ceremony was held at Preston Minster, and Coun McManus described her year as mayor as “the biggest privilege anyone could have”.

She said: “I was born in Preston, I went to school in Preston, I’ve worked in Preston, my children are Prestonian.

“To represent where we live, where we were born, is absolutely fantastic. It’s an honour and a privilege.”

She said highlights of her year as mayor included a march from the King’s Royal Hussars to mark their 300th anniversary, visits to St Catherine’s Hospice, and seeing the work of Caritas Care.

She said: “I enjoyed school and college visits – I’ve met children at primary school and I’ve met UCLan students.

“It’s been fantastic and I wish John (Collins) all the best.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed it.”
