The river's tributary, known as Skippool Creek, has spawned an encampment of rickety jetties and abandoned boats, with some rotting away due to neglect.

But this boat has been dumped in the middle of a bridleway along the Stanah Tramper Trail, spoiling the view of the lush fields and pastures along the estuary.

Lancashire County Council has described the fly-tipping as 'disgraceful' and said it is working with Wyre Council to arrange for its removal.

Stephen Young, executive director of Lancashire County Council tweeted: "So a special shout out today to the person who left this in the middle of one of our bridleways.... please note in the middle of a worldwide pandemic @LancashireCC do have better things to do..."

Lancashire County Council have been approached for further comment.
