Police initially appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

A Lancashire Police spokesperson said: “We were contacted in the early hours of this morning to a report that a 21-year-old woman had been sexually assaulted in Astley Park at Chorley.

“We are in the very early stages of an investigation and enquiries are on-going at this time to establish the exact circumstances.

“No arrests have been made at this stage.”

But later in the day police tweeted they were no longer looking into the claim.
