Police have named the elderly driver who died six days after his car crashed into a wall in Preston.

Grandfather Christopher Austin, 74, appeared to have suffered only minor injuries when his Citroen C2 was involved in the collision at the junction of Granton Walk and Tag Lane, Ingol on May 12.

But his condition later deteriorated and he passed away in the Royal Preston Hospital almost a week later.

Daughter Laura today issued a tribute to a “kind, gentle and loving” father.

“It breaks my heart to know I can never hear your voice, kiss you goodnight or even smell your aftershave,” she said. “You are the best father I could have ever asked for. So kind, gentle and loving. You worked so hard to keep us all happy and I will never forget it.”

Police have issued an appeal for witnesses to the collision which happened around 12.45pm. Anyone with information can contact them on 101 quoting log 623 of May 22, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 and online.
