Officers quickly found the case abandoned in bushes nearby and soon discovered it was thankfully an "open and shut case".

A spokesman for the police said in a Tweet: "Following a report of a suitcase with smoke coming from it in bushes next to the station, officers attended the location.

"They found an old, empty, and wet case, gently steaming in the morning sunshine as the water evaporated."

The report was found to be a false alarm with good intent.
