Police hunt after car found overturned in ditch

Police are searching for the driver of a stolen car which was found overturned in a water-filled ditch on a country lane early today.

Emergency services called to Carr Lane, Warton near Preston at around 7am found the vehicle on its roof, but no sign of anyone at the scene.

A police helicopter was brought in to scour the area, but no-one was found.

The silver Peugot 206 was stolen from outside a house half a mile away in Butlers Meadow, Warton during the night.

A police spokesperson said: “Someone called in to report seeing a vehicle on its roof in a ditch.

“Together with fire service personnel and paramedics we attended the scene, but after firefighters were able to move the vehicle it was established there was no-one present.

“The Peugot was stolen. It had been taken sometime between 11pm last night and 6.45am today from Butlers Meadow.

“Someone had entered a house and stolen the car keys as well as a handbag and some sunglasses. They had then driven off in the vehicle, which is now extensively damaged.

“We are appealing for anyone who either witnessed the crash, or can help identify who was in the vehicle, to call us on 101, quoting log number 147 of September 22nd.”
