Police appeal following serious collision

Police are appealing for information following a collision in Burnley in which a 71 year old woman suffered serious injuries.

Around 1pm on Friday 21 February, the lady was crossing Manchester Road on her mobility scooter when she collided with a beige Fiat panda at the junction with Gainsborough Avenue.

The lady received serious injuries to her leg and head and was air lifted to Royal Preston Hospital where she is receiving treatment for her injuries. The driver of the Fiat Panda was not injured.

Sergeant John Jennings-Wharton said: “An investigation is underway into the circumstances surrounding the collision and we have specially trained officers supporting the family of the injured lady.

“I would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw either of the vehicles being driven prior to the collision to contact police.
