Police appeal after 85-year-old woman's home is burgled in Morecambe

Detectives investigating a burglary at the address of an 85-year-old woman in Morecambe are appealing for information.

The burglary happened between 12.15pm and 2.15pm on Bank Holiday Monday (May 2) when a man approached the victim’s address in Prospect Grove and offered to carry out some work on her driveway.

The woman declined his offer and closed the door. Around ten minutes later, she found the man in her hallway and upon challenging him he left. She later discovered that two of her handbags, one containing jewellery and another which contained cash and bank cards, had been stolen.

The man is described as white, around 5ft 10ins to 5ft 11ins tall, with pale blue eyes. He was wearing a loose fitting jacket and a flat tweed cap and spoke with a local accent.

DC Donna Hemingway of Lancaster CID said: “The victim in this case has understandably been left upset and shaken by this incident and we are keen to speak to anyone who has any information about what happened.

“Similarly, if anyone saw a man matching the description in the area around the time of incident, we would really like to hear from you.”
