An application has been made to Lancashire County Council to allow development at the Lydiate Quarry in Farington until June 2032 and permit site operations from 6.30am Monday to Friday.

South Ribble Council has objected based on concerns from its environmental health department which has received frequent complaints from neighbouring residents about noise and dust emissions and traffic associated with the use of the site on Lydiate Lane.

Ward councillor Paul Wharton said has written to LCC saying: “I wholly object to this application on the grounds of noise, dust, air quality, and the impact on the roads surrounding the site. Over the past year, I have received numerous complaints from residents, and witnessed myself the appalling conditions on Lydiate Lane in respect of dirt always on the road from the quarry.

Residents have had to put up with noise, and poor air quality due to dust from the site, which is significantly worse during the summer months.

“I further believe that allowing the site to run from 6.30am will have a serious detrimental impact on the quality of life of my residents in the surrounding area due to the noise created at the site.

“The granting of the proposed amendments will result in additional noise and dust and have a significant adverse impact on the local residents.”

He said he was also concerned about traffic issues.

A spokesman for Lancashire County Council, said: “Our development control committee considered a report on this application at its most recent meeting and resolved to visit the site to develop a clearer understanding of the proposal, any issues raised, and the relationship of the site to the surrounding area, before determining the application.

“The application will be determined at the next available committee.”

The quarry is run by JA Jackson, sand and gravel suppliers. No-one from the company was available for comment.
