Owner of Darla, a Shar-Pei Staffie cross, Jenny Armer, says the police seized her dog from her home for being a banned pit bull type breed.

Darla now sits in police kennels until the case comes to court where her fate will be decided.

Jenny has vowed to save Darla’s life and has set up a crowdfunding page to raise cash for legal fees to fight the case when it comes to court.

She has also set up a petition at www.change.org/p/lancashire-council-help-us-get-our-innocent-dog-darla-home-to-her-family which needs 35,000 signatures. So far, 31,018 have signed the petition to help save Darla’s life.

Jenny, who has five children, one of whom Maddison, seven, has autism, said: “Thank you so, so much for the support . I am truly grateful.”

In the UK, according to government guidelines, it is illegal to own a pit bull terrier. If you have a banned dog, the police or local council dog warden can take it away and keep it, even if it isn’t acting dangerously or there hasn’t been a complaint.

The police may need permission from a court to do this.
