In a bid to raise money for those less fortunate, little George from Chorley, has so far raised more than £1,000 for the Living Waters foodbank and Cash 4 Kids appeal.

His proud mum Shannon previously told the Post that the idea came to him when son George had mentioned that he wanted to give some of his toys to other children and sell the rest to buy food for families in need.

And on Sunday, December 6, he completed the difficult feat alongside his family and is still raising money today through the Go Fund Me page.

Mum Shannon Thomas said: "After a rocky start and having to turn back with my keys, then being stuck on Wigan Lane for over an hour with a puncture they persevered and made it.

"I couldn't be more proud of my little man for achieving this. We will be purchasing gifts this week for Cash 4 kids who have requested gifts for teenagers."

"Off his own back, he decided he would like to help as many families as possible this Christmas. He asked if we could give food to families who can't afford it so they can have a nice Christmas dinner."

The original feat was a cycle organised from their Chorley home to Southport Pier, but due to Coronavirus guidelines, was changed to a loop around Chorley and finishing at Astley Hall.

With the original target being set at £1,000, with half being donated to the foodbank and the other to the Cash 4 Kids appeal, George has now raised almost £1,700.

And George's passion for bike riding is what spurred him on, having previously completing a 15-mile bike ride whilst practising for his big challenge.

The Cash 4 Kids appeal was created to improve the lives of disadvantaged children and young people affected by poverty, illness and neglect.

The Living Waters church storehouse is vital in providing emergency food for people in crisis and need within the Chorley district, particularly at Christmas.

In the heartwarming video shared to Facebook, showing the youngster completing the challenge, he said: "That was the best bike ride I've ever done. It took me all day and that was very hard."

Friends and family met him at the finish lane to applaud him for his efforts, which are well on their way to raising almost £2,000 for charity and those less fortunate in the run up to Christmas.
