A 40-year-old mum is set to take on the challenge of a lifetime to raise funds for a charity close to her heart.
Gosia Clarke, from Chorley, will walk the Great Wall of China for the Alzheimer’s Society in October.
The mum-of-two, who is a Clinical Audit Officer for Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, is doing the challenge with 30 other people.
Gosia said: “I have always wanted to go to China and it was always on my bucket list and now that I have turned 40 I have decided to go for it.
“I am doing it for Alzheimer’s Society as my family has been affected by this cruel condition and by doing the trek I would like to help the charity as much as I can.
“We are going to trek around 50km in five days from going over renovated and easy part of the wall to more challenging parts with an extreme amount of steps and sheer drops.
“We will be staying in local lodges along the way and immersing ourselves in the local culture.”
Gosia is hoping to use the adventure trip to raise her goal of at least £2,000 to support people with Alzheimer’s - a disease which currently affects 850,000 people living in the UK.
Sue Swire, Alzheimer’s Society community fundraiser for Lancashire, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Gosia for taking on this impressive challenge to support Alzheimer’s Society.
“Dementia can happen to anyone and there is currently no cure.
“But with the right support, people can live well with dementia.
“As a charity, we rely on the generosity of individuals like Gosia to help us continue our vital work so that Alzheimer’s Society can continue leading the fight against dementia.”
Gosia has also set up a blog called ‘My journey to the wall’ to document her progress, which includes her training at Rivington Pike, Preston’s Guild Wheel and a visit to her home town in Krakow, Poland.
