Two crews from Preston fire station and one from Bamber Bridge were called to the motorway near junction 9, Clayton Brook, at around 7.30pm.

The incident was later scaled back to just one crew from Preston, who remained at the scene for 40 minutes with the Highways Agency.

One lane was closed for 30 minutes while they put out the fire.

A spokesman said: "The fire is under investigation, but we believe the van was stolen. No one was there when we turned up."
