The schoolchildren wanted to do the cycle ride to raise as much money as possible for Reece's charity which raises awareness and funds for childhood cancer.

All 12 kids turned up for a rather blustery 13 mile bike ride down Morecambe promenade on Sunday.

Organise Emma Carter said: "The plan was to put posters and balloons all the way down the route so people knew what was going on and how they could donate.

"Me, my daughter Charlotte, Sarah (Niamh's mum)and her friend Becky took that job on and wow! The wind was not our friend!

"We managed to get a few things out on the promenade and the odd balloon but the bunting, majority of the balloons and posters are still in my car!

"We all met down at Sunny Slopes at around 12.15pm. We put gold ribbon on the children's handle bars and Jayne (Joe's mum) had made some amazing Team Reece flags to go on the back of their bikes so hopefully, people on the prom knew they were doing something good and they weren’t just a gang of teenagers biking down the prom!

"With some of the faces painted, they set off! It was a really emotional sight to see them all in a line and all the people that came to support them. It was quite a mix of emotions.

"The wind was in their favour on the first leg and they got to Happy Mount Park in about 20 minutes.

"I couldn’t believe it when I got the call from Jenny (Suria's mum) to say that they had landed. They’d only just set off! It took them a bit longer to come back the other way though as they were fighting against that sea breeze.

"One of the schoolchildren Max got a puncture at one point but what we didn’t know was that one of the grandads was following them and he had a spare inner tube so fixed it on the spot and he was back on his bike in no time!

"We had other mums positioned all down the promenade, collecting money and we all called each other to let us know where they were up to and what check point they had passed.

"My husband Sean was also driving up and down the prom, keeping an eye on them and calling in to let me know where they were up to and making sure nobody needed rescuing!!!

"They had water and sweets at each end so they could fuel up before they set off again.

"On the final lap we held them all together just before the Battery to make sure they were all together and they crossed the line as a team.
