On June 30, a drop-in session will be held at Hope Methodist Chapel in Chapel Lane, to discuss ideas for a new New Longton Improvement Scheme.

The idea, which has been generated by members of the Western Parishes Community Hub, is to uplift the area next to the sports and social club while also exploring improvements to parking and speeding control.

In recent years there has been growing concern about the number of HGVs using New Longton as a cut-through to the A59, as well as speeding drivers trying to get past parked cars outside the village primary school.

Residents are also keen for a refurbishment of the playground and an investment in sports pitches.

Aniela Bylinski Gelder, Cabinet Member for Communities, Social Justice and Wealth Building at South Ribble Borough Council, said: "The New Longton Improvement Scheme is just one of the many great initiatives which have been made possible by our Community Hubs."

She added: "Our Community Hubs allow for local people to have more autonomy over democratic decision making around priorities in their own communities and this initiative came from direct concerns raised as part of that process in the Western Parishes area.

"The next step is to gather more views from residents in relation to the project and people can come along to the Hope Methodist Church in New Longton on 30 June from 7pm until 8pm and have their say on the improvements at the next Community Hub meeting."
