Moor Hall in Aughton, near Ormskirk, placed second in the UK wide league, on top of receiving the special award.

Having placed first for the past two years, the West Lancashire gem was knocked off the top spot this year by Welsh restaurant Ynyshir, but it remains the highest ranking establishment in England.

Chef Patron Mark Birchall said: “I’m over the moon that Moor Hall was awarded Best Restaurant in England 2022 after being no. 1 in the National Restaurant Awards for two consecutive years. It’s a list filled with incredible restaurants, chefs and the people who run them, so it’s humbling to be included at all. This isn’t about me though, this award goes to the entire team at Moor Hall; it’s such a group effort, and we’re so fortunate to have the best team imaginable. Bringing this award back home to Lancashire and flying the flag for the North West and its amazing produce means the world to me.”

Lancashire's Moor Hall was named the Best Restaurant in England in the National Restaurant Restaurant Awards 2022, announced on Monday.

Meanwhile, The Parkers Arms in Newton-In-Bowland in the Ribble Valley placed 44th, making it the second highest ranked Lancashire establishment.

Stosie Madi, Chef Co proprietor said: “We are delighted to have maintained a listing in the prestigious Top 100 for the 6th year running and to have kept a top 50 listing is just wonderful. More than anything we are extremely proud to represent Lancashire & the Ribble Valley nationally once again. Being no 2 in Lancashire & number 44 in the UK is a massive feat and we are very very proud. I was also extremely honoured and proud to be nominated and shortlisted for chef of the year, being one of 8 industry greats is a huge accolade in itself.”

Another Lancashire establishment to make the top 100 restaurants was Northcote in Langho, which came 96th.

Its executive chef Lisa Goodwin-Allen, was also also nominated for chef of the year at the awards.

Mark Birchall is the Chef Patron at the award-winning, two Michelin star restaurant.

The Estrella Damm National Restaurant Awards were launched in 2007 to celebrate the UK’s eating out scene, and includes a top 100 list, as voted for by chefs, restaurateurs and food writers, and a series of special awards.
