A top chef killed himself because he could not cope with the loss of his little brother in a road accident.
Craig Johnson, 30, was found dead just hours after hearing at an inquest how 21-year-old sibling Ben was crushed under the wheels of a bread lorry.
He just couldn’t cope with losing Ben.
“He just couldn’t cope with losing Ben,” revealed heartbroken mum Wendy Taylor.
A coroner in Preston decided Craig took his own life. The inquest heard the cause of death was “severe head trauma” as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot injury.
His body was discovered at the home he shared with fiancee Rebecca in Burrow Heights Lane, Lancaster in the early hours of February 11. Police had been called to the scene after reports of a man with a firearm threatening to harm himself.
Shortly after Craig’s death his mother revealed: “Ben and Craig were ever-so close. Craig loved life and nothing fazed him until the day his brother died.
“He was an amazing person, an outstanding man. He looked after everybody and anybody. I can’t believe that in eight months I have lost two sons.”
Brother Ben died of multiple injuries in June last year after his cycle was crushed by a lorry in his hometown Grimsby. The inquest into his death was held in on February 10. Hours later Craig died.
The former Lancaster and Morecambe College catering student won numerous accolades for his cooking including being named Mitchell’s Chef of the Year in 2008.
