Football pundit Mark Lawrenson gets charity golf day off to a tee!

The Mark Lawrenson Charity Golf Day at Leyland Golf Club was jointly organised by Baby Beat and Leyland Golf Club chef Vincent Slater.

The day, hosted by pundit Mark Lawrenson – a patron of the charity – was sponsored by Richard Fraser.

More than 20 teams participated in the contest before enjoying an evening meal and auction.

Karen Entwistle, charity manager for The Baby Beat Appeal, said: “Altogether £9,474 was raised on the day which was a phenomenal amount.

“We were supported by local businesses who donated prizes for the auction and raffle not to mention who attended the event by putting in a team.

“In total 23 teams took part in the tournament with Conlon Construction winning the trophy.

“There were fantastic auction prizes which included a tour of the BBC programme Football Focus for four people kindly donated by Mark himself.

“He will take the lucky winners and show them how the football programme is broadcast from the gallery down to actually watching the programme go out live.

“There was a prize to play a round of golf with Blackburn Rovers and Scotland footballer Jordan Rhodes and North West Design and Build donated a mini-iPad which was raffled off.

“The event itself teed off at 11.30 with a light lunch, followed by a shot gun start and concluded with an evening of a four course dinner.

“Nicky Newsome provided the comedian entertainment, trophy presentations from our Patron Mark Lawrenson and grand auction and raffle.”

The Baby Beat Appeal was established in 1987 and aims to maintain and raise standards in preventative care for both the unborn baby and the mother. It works to fund new and innovative equipment designed to monitor the unborn baby from conception to birth ensuring safe delivery.

Chief Patron of the charity is Sir Tom Finney.
