Fire extinguished at All Hallows school in Penwortham

A minor fire at a Penwortham school broke out yesterday.

Crews were called to All Hallows Catholic High School on Crabtree Avenue shortly before midday.

Four engines from Penwortham, Preston and Bamber Bridge attended the incident which involved an 'extraction system', the fire service said.

A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue said: "Firefighters used one hose reel and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire."

A spokesman for the school: "A teacher preparing materials for a woodwork lesson created a small amount of smoke due to a very small fire. This set off the fire alarm in which the fire service attended. Pupils were evacuated but later returned to their classes. No damage has been caused to the building."
