Couple have virtual wedding day with family in Bolton-le-Sands and Scotland

Instead, Kirstin Knight and Peter Kneale-Jones found themselves marking what should have been their wedding day virtually with family and friends in Bolton-le-Sands and Scotland.

But bride-to-be Kirstin, 25, said despite not actually being wed it was still a day for them to remember.

She explained: “Peter and I had a lazy morning and breakfast together. We had a bottomless brunch online with friends who had been due to get married later this year, but have also cancelled.

“Then my parents came round and sat in the garden at a respectable distance and had some champagne with us.”

Kirstin’s parents Carole and Chris Knight live close to them in New Carron near Falkirk, while the couple raised a glass virtually with Peter’s parents, Lyn and John Kneale-Jones who live in Bolton-le-Sands, near Morecambe.

Kirstin and Peter had been expecting to be saying ‘I do’ at the Timberyard in Edinburgh on May 8, however they had been forced to cancel their plans due to Covid-19.

Kirstin continued: “The afternoon was full of Zoom calls with friends and family.

“It wasn’t the wedding day we had planned but we enjoyed it. We made the most of it, it’s all you can do.

“We were lucky that it was a bank holiday and everyone else was off as well to join us.

“Our parents were pleased to be able to see us on the day. There were a couple of tears to start with and some on the afternoon calls, but we just wanted to make the most of it.

“We celebrated the best way we can and we’re part of history now. It makes it more special for when it does happen. ”

Peter, 29, and Kirstin are now looking to the future.

“We have decided not to reschedule for now as we are not sure when all of this will be over, so we didn’t want to set a new date and then have to cancel again,” said Kirstin.

“So we’ve cancelled things, but as soon as we can, we are going to go a registry office and then decide if we want to have a meal or a party at a later date.

“We were upset we weren’t getting to be married, but not so bothered about cancelling the party.

“We were disappointed we were not going to be able to say we are husband and wife yet, but as soon as we can after all this is over, we’ll get to a register office.”
