Club back in business after raid causes devastation

Fulwood Conservative Club was badly affected by water damage after raiders stole lead from its roof.

It had to close its doors for nearly two months as the damage was repaired.

Now the message from the Preston club is “We are back in business”.

Thieves struck at the club, in Blackpool Road, on September 8.

They stole a large quantity of lead from its roof and made off, leaving the club at the mercy of the elements.

A major rain storm followed, leaving the premises flooded and damaged.

Officials had no choice but to close the doors and have been battling to reopen ever since.

The club boasts function rooms, a games room and two bowling greens.

Secretary/ treasurer Pauline Moss said it had been a difficult period but the club was now ready to reopen.

She said: “It was a nightmare – we were flooded out.

“All the ceiling came down and the electrics were affected and everything.

“We have been closed for eight weeks and we have carried out a complete refurbishment programme using local contractors.”

She added that the club had been booked for private functions this weekend and the committee was plannning a an official relaunch on bonfire night, Saturday, November 5.

Pauline said: “We are delighted to be back in action.

“It has been quite tramatic for everybody and we now want to put it all behind us.

“We are back in business, the building is looking good and people are very welcome to come along.”
