City's landmarks are the stars of new Preston Monopoly board game

Lots of the city's landmarks are featured on the world- famous board game, which has been entertaining families for decades.

The Grade I-listed Harris Museum will be crowned the new Mayfair of Preston. The Winckley Square Hotel replaces upmarket Park Lane.

Preston Guild Hall, currently closed, has a card dedicated to it celebrating a “Grand Re-opening”.

Other landmarks starring in the edition include Deepdale, the listed red telephone boxes on Market Street, UCLan, Avenham Park, the No. 10 Preston hotel, Preston Minster, both the Flag and Covered markets, and lots more crown jewels of Preston.

The four train stations from the original board are being handed over to a ‘travel’ theme, comprising: Preston Guild Wheel, the train station, the marina and the bus station.

Several charities ‘Pass GO’ too, including St Catherine’s Hospice, One Voice Community Choir and Dig In.

The makers of this new Preston version are proudly describing it as “a Love Letter to Preston”.

Tourist and civic leaders are impressed.

Mayor of Preston, Coun David Borrow, said: “This is a very tough time for Preston and Lancashire so we need all the good news we can get.”

Mark Whittle, Preston BID manager, said: “Preston is fortunate to be home to many outstanding landmarks, businesses and charities. So It’s only fitting that they are now immortalised on the city’s very own version of Monopoly.”

The game is on sale now at all good toy and book stores including WHSmith, Waterstones, The Works and Ryman, plus online at Amazon.
