Sir Lindsay, who is also Speaker of the House of Commons, dropped in at Chorley’s Youth Zone, which is set to benefit from a fully equipped pottery studio thanks to firedup4, an online auction to raise money for the project.

More than 30 uniquely crafted pieces from renowned potters will be sold at the auction, which concludes at 7pm on Thursday (November 19) and all proceeds will go towards equipping pottery studios and the training and supplying of staff for one year, in two Youth Zones in the North West – Chorley and Wigan.

The studio potters and ceramic artists were each given three kilos of clay and have creatively interpreted the brief to produce a dynamic selection of contemporary ceramics.

Inspire Youth Zone, on Chapel Street in Chorley, offers everything from indoor climbing and sports, to dance and drama, with over 20 activities on offer each and every night. The purpose-built facility, which opened just over two years ago, continues to offer somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to for young people aged 8-19 for just 50p per visit.

Andrew Turner, Chairman of Inspire Youth Zone, said: “Charities like ours need to be very creative when fundraising so we are delighted to partner with Kate Malone on this innovative campaign. We know that clay is incredibly tactile and aids in the development of fine motor skills and creative problem solving.

“This campaign, and the introduction of a pottery studio within our facility, will allow us to teach young people new skills and inspire creativity.”
