Burnley born fashion designer stuns shoppers after she walks 'down the aisle' in Asda in dream wedding gown
A blushing 'bride' got the chance to walk down the aisle in a dream wedding dress and draw gasps of admiration from dozens of 'guests' on Saturday.
But it was not quite as it may seem, as the 'bride' in question was Burnley born fashion designer Carrie-Ann Kay and the wedding 'venue' was Colne's Asda store.
Staff and customers were rubbing their eyes in disbelief as Carrie-Ann went quietly about doing her shopping, in the stunning dress named The Rita from her own collection, accompanied by her three-year-old son Race.
Her husband Jamie got behind the camera to capture the amazing spectacle on film.
Carrie-Ann said: "A few customers were asking us if we had just got married and some did shout out 'congratulations.'
"I don't believe there is a dress code, as such, for the store, so I didn't think it would be a problem to turn up in a wedding gown to do my essential shop, although I did feel a bit scared as we entered the store at first."
Talented Carrie-Ann came up with the ingenious idea to bring some cheer to the many brides who have forced to postpone their wedding plans due to the pandemic.
She said: "I have around 300 wedding dresses on hold and a number of brides who have had to postpone their wedding day, some at least three times because of covid rules.
"It's so disheartening for them because we can't even do fittings as I am not allowed to open so a question mark hangs over when they can actually have what is supposed to be the happiest and best day of your life."
Several customers recognised Carrie-Ann as she made her way elegantly round the aisles but she admitted she had to bribe Race with the promise of dinosaur toys to join her!
A pupil at the former Habergham High School Carrie-Ann now runs her own business, Rene K Couture which is based in Barrowford.
Creative Carrie-Ann caused a social media storm in 2018 when she whipped up a copy of the wedding dress worn by Royal bride Megham Markle in just 90 minutes!
And "The Meghan" went down a storm and received almost 1,000 likes and Carrie-Ann was inundated with inquiries about it.
