Some 5,000 people descended on the city’s historical Flag Market, beneath the grandeur of the Harris Museum, for the Purple Party on Saturday night.

There they were entertained by live sets from Robot Wars star and DJ Craig Charles and Radio One and 1Xtra broadcaster MistaJam, from 8 to 11.30pm.

The adults-only event, which saw 90 per cent of tickets snapped up the start of the month, was held by Preston’s Business Improvement District (BID) to honour the city’s Purple Flag accreditation, a standard given to places with ‘safe, vibrant, and inclusive’ nights out.

Guests attending were treated to a warm up set by city favourite Nick Carter before the two main acts took to the stage.
