Andrew Sissons is gearing up for the Paris Marathon to support Royal Preston Hospital in memory of his mother-in-law.
The 41-year-old will run 26 miles on April 8, in a bid to raise £2,000 for ward 24 at the hospital, where grandmother-of-four Denise Molyneux, of Lostock Hall, worked before she died suddenly of sepsis.
Andrew, who lives in Stoke, said: “I was planning on running the marathon anyway but when Denise passed away last November, aged 61, it made sense to raise funds for Royal Preston Hospital, where she worked for 30 years.
“She worked on various wards, but for many years and up until her death, she worked on ward 24.
“Denise was an amazing nurse, mum to her three children, grandmother and friend and her sudden and unexpected death has left a hole in the lives of those that knew and loved her, that cannot ever be filled.
“She loved being a nurse and she loved ward 24. She was always involved in any efforts to raise money for equipment for that ward.
“Sadly the NHS cannot provide every piece of equipment for every ward, in every hospital all over the UK.
“It seems a fitting tribute that in her memory we can come together and raise funds that will be passed onto the ward manager and Denise’s close friend Jackie, who will decide what equipment will best benefit the ward and the patients who arrive on ward 24 for treatment.
“I will get more satisfaction knowing the money will go to the ward Denise worked and loved.
“Denise was an amazing, selfless, funny and loving woman, there are not enough words to describe how much we miss her but it’s a privilege to be able to do “this in her honour and keep her memory alive in the place she worked for so many years, ward 24.
“Both myself and my wife Tracy’s family would be greatly appreciative of any support people can give no matter how small.
“I have done half marathons before. The Paris Marathon will be hard work and I have done a lot of training, but it will be worth it.”
