An elderly woman escaped uninjured following a living room fire at her home earlier today.
Two crews from Penwortham and Bamber Bridge tackled the blaze at the property in Withy Grove Crescent, Bamber Bridge, at around 10.30am.
Crew manager Peter Blamire, of Penwortham fire station, said: “The living room was well alight on attendance and the elderly occupier, a female, was stood outside. Paramedics attended her, she was shocked and upset. She didn’t need hospital treatment.”
A total of nine firefighters attended the incident and used four breathing apparatus and one hose reel to extinguish the fire, and a fan to clear out smoke.
They were at the scene for about two hours.
Mr Blamire added: “The living room was severely gutted and the rest of the house had severe heat and smoke damage.”
The fire service emergency support vehicle also attended to give assistance to the occupier.
The cause of the fire was being investigated.
Meanwhile fire crews from Bamber Bridge are due to visit the Withy Grove area in the next couple of days with fire safety advice leaflets.
