‘It’s because Trump and I articulate sentiments repressed by the politically correct consensus that we have a voice.’
So said the pundit, opinion former and social misfit Katie Hopkins this week in springing to the defence of serial lout and billionaire egomaniac Donald Trump.
Have you ever seen 18 more revealing words all in a row?
Most telling of all, of course, is the bizarre assertion that the bilious sentiments both she and Trump freely spout as an apparent consequence of merely opening their mouths are in any way repressed.
Does the irony of making such a statement to zillions of Twitter followers accumulated on the back of belching precisely such sentiments into columns for two of Britain’s highest selling daily newspapers escape her?
I doubt it. Is merely part of the act, the character she has created.
Ditto the plucky defiance of ‘politically correct consensus’, a myth, a reverse reality of the arena in which said character cavorts.
The Sun, Times, Dailies Mail, Telegraph, Express and Star are all on the far right economically, most socially and culturally, and some (some more than others) racially too.
The idea that three or four lower circulation more liberal (although just as war-like and economically Thatcherite) papers offer even an effective counter-balance, let alone a dominant narrative, is laughable.
Not a word of which would come as news to Hopkins. As said, all part of the role.
Of this ‘Katie Hopkins’ character she has meticulously created for herself to inhabit, for money, and then peddled to her credulous, most likely scared and confused, readership.
A resistance fighter, struggling to overcome unseen forces and bring common sense to a world run from the shadows by leftist overlords. Nonsense, clearly.
The owners of most mass media outlets have long used their power to relentlessly push the right wing agenda of our wealthy elite.
Needless to say, this creates many job opportunities for brash hate mongers, and thus is the real reason Katie et al have a voice.
And what do you get when you put all these voices together and have them moan and whine and divide and demonize for decades on end?
