Have your say

This week I feel so strongly about my topic, that I am postponing my nostalgia columns till next week.

I have several points.

Firstly I’m disgusted at the recent cyber attack on the NHS -a wonderful organization.

Secondly, it would be better to banish the Internet completely with organizations handling sensitive data.

Thirdly, we must appreciate our health system and not forget how lucky we are to have it.

I am beyond incensed and incredulous about the recent cyber attack on the NHS and that cyber criminals would stoop so low as to target our already cash-strapped hospitals.

This, in case you hadn’t noticed, is a fantastic organisation that should never be taken for granted.

Perhaps a period of time spent in the US or other countries which do not have something like our wonderful system, would set you straight. I know first-hand that people have unbelievable problems over there and really envy our system.

There are many in the States who would give anything to have access to free health care.

Our staff dedicate themselves beyond the call of duty to look after our citizens and I find it hard to believe anyone in their right mind would not agree it is a wonderful thing to have. I know from personal experience, and I'm sure many others agree, that it has been a brilliant part of our country for decades and we should all be extremely proud of it.

Surely no one wants to return to Dickensian times?

Following the attack, it now seems a sensible and logical thing for organisations handling sensitive data, to back up everything, thus making impotent the cyber criminals and lessening their impact.

Why not return more fully to pre-internet days when good ol’ pen and paper did the same job? I know Internet enthusiasts will argue that this would be impossible etc. but it can’t be a valid argument if we had an NHS that once did just that.

In my opinion there is far too much reliance on technology and the world is not necessarily better for it.

Finally, I would like you to bear in mind that a government that takes care of its citizens’ health is a good benchmark for a truly effective society, so think on when June 8 appears!
