One person has died and two others sustained serious injuries following a collision in Scarisbrick, near Southport.
It happened at around 6pm on Tuesday night on the A570 Southport Road near to The Villa café when a Peugeot Horizon and a Toyota Carina were involved in a head on collision.
One person died in the collision and two people sustained serious injuries. Their families are being supported by specially trained officers.
It is believed that a BMW saloon car was also involved but failed to stop and drove towards the direction of Southport.
PS John Jennings Wharton of the Road Policing Unit said: “I would urge anyone with any information about the collision to contact us. Someone out there knows who was driving the BMW and I plead to their conscience for them to come forward and report what they know to us as soon as possible.”
