Two fire appliances were mobilised to an incident at Yarrow Road, Leyland, yesterday morning.

The officer in charge and crew member from Leyloand made entry into the property to find thick acrid smoke in the property and an elderly occupant on the floor led next to a walking frame that was alight.

The officer quickly passed the frame to the crew member who removed it from the property and extinguished it outside.

While the officer gave reassuring advice and made the elderly female casualty comfortable, a Bamber Bridge team assisted the remaining crew members to get a ventilation unit running at the front of the property to aid smoke clearance.

A crew member gave the woman first aid to a cut and an ambulance attended the scene.
