Nine in 10 people '˜happy living in South Ribble'

Nine out of 10 people in South Ribble are satisfied with life in the borough, new research suggests.

A poll of 550 residents, carried out by the Local Government Association (LGA), put South Ribble ahead of the national average in a number of categories.

Parks, recycling and the borough council all fared well in the study, with more than eight in 10 people rating these things as satisfactory.

However, around half of residents were not happy with road and pavement repairs, and also flagged up traffic issues as an area needing improvement.

The results of the survey will be used by South Ribble Borough Council in considering which priorities should be included in its corporate plan.

They come just after South Ribble being named as the best place to live in the UK by a Channel 4 TV show featuring Sarah Beeny.

Coun Peter Mullineaux, leader of South Ribble Council, attributed the high satisfaction levels at council services to the hard work of employees.

“These results, which would be the envy of any authority, are down to the dedication of employees at South Ribble,” he said.

“These results show we’re above the national average in pretty much every area.

“But we won’t sit back and rest. We know the hard work is just beginning and we are determined to look to the future and keep on improving, (by) strengthening our processes and our ability to deliver exceptional services.”
