Date set for police meeting

A DATE has been set for the next PACT meeting in the Ashton area of Preston.

It will be held at Ashton Methodist Church Hall in Wellington Road, Ashton, on Monday October 6.

It starts at 6.30pm and is a chance for local people to raise any concerns they have.

Forum meeting

A NEIGHBOURHOOD forum for people living in Samlesbury, Coupe Green, Gregson Lane, and the surrounding areas will be held at Samlesbury Memorial Hall in Cuerdale Lane on Thursday at 7pm.

Donate blood

PEOPLE can give blood at the Sir Tom Finney Sports Centre on Tuesday October 14.

Anniversary fun

THE Mayor of South Ribble Coun Graham Walton will tend the 25th anniversary fun day of Stonehouse Childcare in Leyland on Saturday.

Redevelopment plans approved

PLANS to build a development of seven semi-detached and detached houses on the former site of The Crest at 121 Duddle Lane, Bamber Bridge, have been approved by South Ribble Council.

The proposal also includes the construction of new highway, private parking for the homes, and associated landscaping works.

The previous building on the site was demolished in 2007.

Retirement of popular landlord

A RETIREMENT party for well-known pub landlord Ronnie Fitzpatrick takes place at the Olde Dog and Partridge in Friargate, Preston, from 5pm on Saturday.

Ronnie, 74, is bowing out after 37 years behind the bar at the historic pub. A former serviceman, he took over the hostelry and live band venue in 1977 when bitter was just 28p a pint. All customers welcome to attend.

Concerns over behaviour

ANTI-social behaviour, motorbike nuisance and criminal damage in Glendale Avenue and on Lostock Hall Academy’s playing field is being investigated by local neighbourhood police officers.

Residents reported problems at a recent Police and Community Together (PACT) meeting.

Speeding worry

PENWORTHAM Coun Harry Hancock has raised concerns over speeding vehicles in Millbrook Way. Police have vowed to investigate.

Free dementia information

TWO free dementia presentations are to be held at Preston Central Methodist Church.

The first is on September 29 at 2pm and the second is on October 3, also at 2pm The first session will be about the different forms of dementia and how they present. The second session talks about coping strategies. To book call 01772 624111.

Pub makeover

PLANS have been submitted to South Ribble Council for changes at the Welcome Tavern in Hennel Lane, Lostock Hall.

Daniel Thwaites PLC wants to extend the kitchen area to the rear over a yard, and to repave and build decking for an external seating area.

Table top sale

A TABLE top sale will take place at Fulwood Methodist Church Crossroads Centre in Watling Street Road, from 9.30am to 1pm on Saturday, October 4. Tables cost £10. To book call 01772 716203.

Classical music season opener

THE first lunchtime classical music concert of the 2014-2015 season from The Harris Music Club will take place on September 24.

Between 1pm and 2pm at the Minster Of St John The Evangelist, Church St, Preston, a programme of Czech Music by Novak, Smetana & Suk will be performed.

Tickets cost £9 at the door and include light refreshments.

Stephanie wins

STEPHANIE Blakeley, who recently appeared in the LEP after losing 100lbs, has been named as Slimming World’s Lancashire & Cumbria District’s Woman of the Year 2014.

She will now go to the national finals at Slimming World head office on October 5.

Date is set for coffee morning

AN autumn fair and coffee morning for a Christian Aid project will be held in St Andrew’s Church Hall, Longton on Saturday from 10.30am.

Cycle track plan

PLANS to install a shared use cycle track with toucan crossings as part of the A582 Penwortham Way/Chain House Lane junction improvement works, have been approved by LCC bosses.

Cattle storage

PLANS have been launched to build a covered area for the storage of cattle at Chestnut House Farm, Wham Lane, Little Hoole, Preston.

ALL 8,000 tickets have now sold out for the Lancashire Constabulary Behind the Badge open day on Sunday, September 28.
