Crews tackle burger blaze

FIREFIGHTERS tackled a kitchen blaze after burgers caught fire in a Preston home.

Crews were called to Dawson Walk at 1.05am yesterday, after a man fell asleep while cooking beefburgers under the grill.

He was led to safety and firefighters put out the fire and ventilated the property.

Full council meeting date

THE next full meeting of Preston Council is due to be held on Thursday August 21.

Councillors will meet at the Town Hall in Lancaster Road at 2pm.

A live webcast of the meeting will be shown on the day on Preston Council’s website, and the agenda will be available in the week before the meeting.

Blood donation

BLOOD donation sessions will be held tomorrow at GHS Cultural Centre in South Meadow Lane, Preston, from 1.45pm to 3.45pm, and from 5pm to 7.30pm.

Drive-through police tip-off

STAFF at a McDonalds drive-through reported a customer to police when they smelt alcohol on his breath.

Luke McKeown, 34, of Hastings Avenue, Warton, had called in for breakfast at the outlet in Lytham, when workers became suspicious. They gave police a description of his car, and when pulled over, he was found to be twice over the limit. He pleaded guilty at Blackpool Magistrates and was banned from driving for 17 months and fined £160.

Flats proposals for above shop

THE space above a furniture shop in Leyland is set to converted into apartments.

Planning permission has been granted for the first and second floor of JSM Furniture at 157 to 163 Towngate to be transformed into five apartments.

There will be three two-bed, and two one-bed apartments.

Bungalows idea sent to council

PLANS have been submitted to build five bungalows in Longmeanygate, Leyland.

John Ward, of Gatehouse Farm in Jane Lane, Midge Hall, wants to build three dormers to the front and two dormers to rear of number 154 Longmeanygate.

A decision will be made by South Ribble Council.

Lorry crashes into back of car

TWO motorists escaped unharmed after an HGV shunted the back of a car on the M6, northbound between junctions 31a and 32 yesterday.

Police were called just after noon, and helped traffic move passed the blockage in lane one while recovery took place.
