New Year's Eve house fire in Preston under investigation

Fire crews were called to a house fire in Preston last night, just minutes after the city welcomed in the New Year.

Four fire engines from Preston, Penwortham and Bamber Bridge were called to tackle the fire at a terraced home in Andrew Street, off Skeffington Road, at 12.09am.

One casualty was assessed at the scene by ambulance crews, but did not require hospital treatment.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

A fire service spokesman said: "Firefighters used six breathing apparatus, two hose reels, one jet and two ventilation units to extinguish the fire.

"North West Ambulance Service staff assessed one casualty at the scene and the cause of the fire is under investigation."
