Lancashire’s first storm warning of 2015 was expected to blow itself out today, with forecasters promising calmer conditions for the weekend.
The county was placed under a yellow alert yesterday, with high, possibly gale force, winds and heavy rain sweeping across the region.
But after such an awful start to the New Year, the Met Office predicted the wild weather would ease, although the mild temperatures of Thursday are set to be replaced by much chillier conditions.
The deep area of low pressure, which brought the storm conditions on New Year’s Day, was due to move away into the Irish Sea during last night.
The wind was not expected to go with it altogether, with more wintry weather predicted.
Unsettled conditions are forecast well into January, although major snowfalls are not expected.
