A development of almost 200 homes could be built in Preston if plans are given the go-ahead.

Cheshire-based Frost Planning has submitted plans for 189 homes on a site off Sandyforth Lane in Woodplumpton, on behalf of David Wilson Homes Ltd and Property Capital Plc.

The project, if approved, will include the first stretch of the new East-West link distributor road, and bosses say the plans will create jobs, boost housing supply and fund infrastructure developments.

If the proposals are given the green light by Preston’s planning committee, work is expected to start early next year.

Andy Frost, of Frost Planning, said: “The development will boost the supply of attractive family housing in the area.

“It will also make a substantial contribution to local highway, educational, open space and other community infrastructure.

“We have submitted environmental reports which demonstrate that the development poses no threat to residential amenities, traffic conditions or local wildlife. We believe that this development presents an excellent opportunity to create new jobs; boost local housing supply, and fund a range of infrastructure improvements.”

Andrew Taylor of David Wilson Homes added: “This development supports the 
government’s City Deal for Preston.

“David Wilson Homes has extensive experience of developing high-quality housing throughout the North West region and nationally.

“Subject to receiving planning permission later this year we hope to start work on site by early 2015.”

Julie Buttle, clerk to Woodplumpton Parish Council, said the proposals would be discussed by councillors later this month.

She said: “It will be up to the councillors to determine it, but I think the things we will be looking at are whether the properties are in-keeping with the masterplan. The concept of housing is agreed for the area, so the parish council will be focussing on access, the amount of open space, the mix of properties and parking arrangements, and the affordable housing element.”
