Mums and their babies now have a new cafe to socialise and breastfeed, following the launch of an extended service.

As Families and Babies Charity (FAB) has been selected to continue to provide peer support services to breastfeeding mums across Central Lancashire, this has allowed it to move to a new base at Roccoco cafe, within Brothers of Charity Services, in Chapel Brow, Leyland.

The coffee lounge is now breastfeeding friendly, and there will be a room for one-to-one support.

Marie Longworth, operations manager for FAB, said: “We have had our Central Lancashire headquarters in Leyland for many years, however it was time to move onwards and upwards.

“We are delighted to have a new home within the building of The Brothers of Charity Services which is an organisation whose vision is to provide a range of services to people with learning disabilities which support their individuality, choice, rights and dreams.

“Within the building there have a social enterprise – Roccoco coffee lounge and bakery where people with learning disabilities can work and gain experience.

“The coffee lounge will become breastfeeding friendly and we will use their spare room as a private breastfeeding one-to-one support space.

“We are extremely proud to provide a valued peer support service as we know how effective it can be alongside health professionals.”

The South Ribble Mayor, Linda Woollard, attended the launch and officially opened the service.

Lancashire County Council offered FAB the peer support service contract for a one-year period, with an option to extend for a further two years.

Chairman of FAB, Elaine Edwards, said: “We are now in our 10th year of being a driving force in peer support services for families in Central Lancashire and we are keen to continue to provide this service.

“Provision will focus upon early support principles with contact being offered within the first 48 hours after birth, with home visits being available after the initial midwifery visit.”
