New bishop is now out and about meeting local ‘flock’

The past few weeks have been exciting ones for the Blackburn Diocese with the consecration of the Rt Rev Julian Henderson as the ninth bishop of Blackburn.

Brock Valley Churches Together organised for a coach to take more than 35 people representing the Fellside team of parishes to York for the bishop’s consecration.

“The colour, the pageantry, the music, the worship, and the awesome splendour of York Minster offered a deeply spiritual context to remind us of the history of Christianity in this country and the special place of the Church of England in proclaiming Christ to the nation and the responsibilities and role of the bishop,” said Fellside team rector Jeff Finch.

Since then Bishop Julian and his wife, Heather, have been out and about in the diocese and, locally, have visited Beacon Fell, Waddecar, Bleasdale and Forton.

Next Tuesday (November 12) Bishop Julian is making another official visit to the Garstang Deanery.

He will visit Bilsrow Holsteins, Bilsborrow; St Aidan’s College, Preesall and Myerscough College, Whitechapel and Garstang.

For anyone else who would like to meet the Bishop, there is to be an open meeting at St Helen’s, Churchtown, at 7pm on Tuesday, when all the parishes of the Garstang Deanery will be represented.
