Plans have been announced for a brand new bike ride challenge which covers a massive 100 miles across four counties in the North West.
St Catherine’s Hospice has been named as the official charity partner for the event, which sets off from Bamber Bridge and goes through Lancashire, Merseyside, Greater Manchester and Cheshire.
St Catherine’s has teamed up with Wiggle and Pennine Events and has a number of places up for grabs. It replaces the charity’s successful Big Charity Bike Ride which has run for the past three years in May, as well as its long-standing participation in the Manchester to Blackpool event which takes place each summer.
Riders are being encouraged to sign up for the Wiggle event, which also features an 82-mile option, through the Lostock Hall hospice and to use the challenge to collect sponsorship for their efforts.
Lynne Whittaker, senior fund-raiser at St Catherine’s Hospice, said: “We are delighted to be involved in the first ever Wiggle 4 Counties event which promises to be a wonderful experience and a fantastic achievement.
“We know there are many riders out there who are keen to use their cycling prowess to support St Catherine’s, but we also recognised that after three years of the Big Bike Ride many felt they had ticked that off their list.
“By working with Wiggle and Pennine Events, we are able to introduce an exciting new challenge which we hope lots of supporters both old and new will be inspired to rise to.”
She added: “We hope participants will use their passion for the pedals as an opportunity go out to family, friends and colleagues to ask for sponsorship. All of the money raised in this way will be used to support the specialised care St Catherine’s Hospice provides.”
Registration for the challenge, which takes place on Sunday, May 15, costs £33. The St Catherine’s fund-raising team is on hand to advise riders on generating donations and sponsorship.
