Neighbours hit out at Ingol fuel station plans

An application has been lodged by Motor Fuel Group Ltd for Tag Lane Service Station in Ingol, proposing to build a new shop following the demolition of a bungalow.

But residents living in Ashfield Court are campaigning against the plans, fearing they will ruin the appearance of their cul-de-sac.

One neighbour, speaking on behalf of residents living in the street, said people were unhappy with the plans and said: “We are submitting a letter to the council on behalf of all the residents.

“The main concern is the aesthetics of the area are going to change significantly.

“A bungalow is going, and a shop is being built there, so it will affect it.

“Because we live in a cul-de-sac, we get quite a bit of traffic coming down thinking they can cut through and turning round, and that’s going to increase.

“Upset is an understatement. Some people are devastated.”

But a planning statement submitted with Preston Council said the proposed works would result in the “refurbishment of an existing building to create a modern, legible and accessible forecourt shop”.

The statement by agent Jennings Design Ltd said: “This application represents the modernisation and replacement proposals of an existing shop building at the site.

“The proposals will help in meeting modern retailer requirements which will in turn lead to an enhanced experience for customers through improvement of the service station’s overall appearance and environment.”

The campaign comes days after it was reported that a petition had been launched against proposals for a Sainsbury’s Local in the car park of the Guild Merchant.

Nobody from Motor Fuel Group Ltd responded to a request for comment.
